At SLU, we take our responsibility to inform the campus community about safety issues very seriously. Below is a brief overview of the safety-related emails that our Department of Public Safety issues to students, faculty and staff.
Emergency Notifications: For incidents – including severe weather – that represent an immediate or imminent threat to the campus. In addition to email, text messages, phone calls and Twitter are also used. This is required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
Timely Warnings: For reports of serious crimes that don’t represent an imminent or immediate threat. This is also required by the Clery Act.
Advisories: For a series of criminal activity, such as car break-ins or other property crimes. These types of notifications are not required by the Clery Act.
